Presentation Tips
Basically any presentation consists of three major components:
content, delivery, and animation
Content
Nothing you do can make up for poor content so consider what you want to say. What is your message? How would you like the audience to feel when you are finished with your presentation? What three key points do you want to communicate? The answers to these questions will drive the creation of your content. After you draft your content and write it down, look for areas that need spicing up and add powerful adjectives and impactful adverbs to add life to your content.
Delivery
When you think about the last presentation you heard what do you remember about that presentation? Usually you will remember how the
presenter delivered their message. Did they engage the audience? Were they passionate about their message? Did they emphasize any words or phrases? Most likely they neither memorized nor read their presentation since either of these methods prevents the presenter from engaging their audience. Practice your presentation and, if possible, video tape or at least audio record your presentation. Then listen with a critical eye/ear and evaluate to see where you can improve your delivery.
Animation
How animated are you when you present? Do you use gestures? Do you use facial expressions to accentuate your delivery? Imagine how boring a
presentation would be if the presenter just stood still, hands at their sides during the entire presentation, and no movement. Challenge yourself to see how long you could stay awake during this presentation.
